Finding Football
Unlock the power of play!
Girls Football: Empowering Young Women in Edmonton
This project, proudly funded by the London Marathon Foundation, aims to inspire minority groups to engage more in sport and exercise, while also increasing the use of vital community facilities and spaces. We’re specifically targeting girls in Edmonton, offering them a girls-only football session once a week for two school terms.
Our hope is that these sessions will encourage more reluctant girls to discover the joy of a new sport, boost their fitness, strengthen social connections, and eventually lead them to explore other local sports classes. We’re actively working to overcome common barriers to sports participation, including financial constraints, lack of confidence, limited awareness of opportunities, and safety concerns in the area.
We chose football specifically due to the incredible success of The Lionesses and the growing demand for dedicated girls-only football provisions.

Our Inclusive Sessions
We offer a variety of ways for girls to get involved:
- After-school football clubs running in eight local schools.
- Two lunchtime clubs at West Lea School, ensuring the project is inclusive and accessible for wheelchair users.
- Two community sessions in the early evening, open to any local girls (not just those attending the schools).
- One successful holiday session over the summer.
- One weekend session specifically for older teens.
As the project progresses, we’re excited to organize matches, special events, and even trips to watch professional football games!
