Stronger Edmonton: Empowering Youth, Building Futures
The Stronger Edmonton project takes a collaborative, multi-agency approach to support children and young people in Edmonton. Our focus is on those who are at risk of, or already involved in, the early stages of criminal activity. Through a powerful partnership of local schools, organizations, dedicated community members, and experienced youth mentors, we offer a comprehensive programme of in-school and extracurricular activities. These opportunities allow young people to learn new skills, express themselves in unique ways, and receive tailored mental health & wellbeing support.
What We Offer
Our programme provides a diverse range of engaging activities:
- Creative Arts Workshops: Delivered by talented partners like The British DJ & MC Academy, Blingwear Arts, and Platinum Performing Arts, these workshops encourage self-expression through graffiti, music, and drama.
- Chess Clubs: Available in our partner schools, these clubs enhance strategic planning, cognitive abilities, and memory utilization, providing valuable mental exercise.
- Functional Life Skills: We offer functional cooking and chess clubs to equip young people with practical skills and discipline they can apply to their lives long after the programme ends. Our aim is for longevity in the lessons learned.
- Career & Life Preparation: We believe young people deserve the best support when planning their future. That’s why we offer in-depth video production or journalism sessions and dynamic football skills sessions.

Dedicated Youth Mentorship
As a core part of the provision, ECP’s two Youth Mentors work directly in schools to deliver tailored 1-to-1 and group mental health and well-being workshops. They address crucial topics such as anger management, peer pressure, and the transition into Secondary School. We understand how challenging it can be for young people to navigate these feelings. Our mentors strive to equip children with the tools needed to deal with adversity and challenges in a nurturing and engaging environment. This safe space allows young people to reflect on their behavior and decisions, and how these may impact their lives in the future.
Why Stronger Edmonton Matters Now More Than Ever
Edmonton currently faces high levels of deprivation and serious youth violence. The COVID-19 pandemic also led to a significant reduction in extracurricular youth work, further amplifying the need for projects like Stronger Edmonton. The importance of children and young people engaging in positive activities and receiving specialized wellbeing support is often overlooked, yet it’s desperately needed. Stronger Edmonton’s main aims are prevention and intervention. Through our dedicated work in schools, with our partners, and through our youth mentors, we are committed to making a real difference for those who need it most.
