Bringing Stories to Life

Starting in 2023, Edmonton Community Partnership is thrilled to launch a new project in partnership with the renowned Chickenshed Theatre.

Chickenshed’s talented staff will work with five schools for six weeks, running engaging workshops for one year group per school (Reception – Year 2). These sessions will provide a rich array of performance-related opportunities, including:

• Singing
• Dancing
• Puppetry
• Movement
• British Sign Language (BSL)
• Music

The goal is to foster the development of crucial communication, language, and expressive skills in young children.

Why This Project Matters Now More Than Ever

Since the pandemic, schools have reported being overwhelmed by the number of young children starting school with lower-than-expected social, language, and communication skills. This project seeks to support speech and language development in a more practical and engaging way, outside of the traditional classroom setting.

Experience the Magic of Theatre

After the workshops conclude, Chickenshed will perform a series of their much-loved ‘Tales from the Shed’ shows for a wider audience across our schools. This provides a fantastic opportunity for children to experience the magic of theatre firsthand.

We will also perform a series of shows in various community locations, utilizing community languages to ensure an even broader audience can enjoy and experience theatre right in their own neighborhoods.
